There seems to be a lot of gloom and doom concerning the Dallas Cowboys’ chances this season. We haven’t even got to training camp yet and the analysts and the Stephen A Smith’s of the world are already predicting failure for the team. First off, it is justified, since the team has been mediocre for the last three seasons, I wouldn’t blame anyone who didn’t believe in the Cowboys. Yet, I think most of predictions are a tad bit premature and we need to wait until the season starts. There are things about this team that has me giddy as a Cowboys fan and I can’t wait. Here are my top-3 reasons that Cowboys fans should be excited for.

#3- New-look defense

The Cowboys were dreadful last year on the defensive side of the ball; that is no secret. When you reach historical proportions of how bad your defense is, then things really need to change. Man oh man did change come for the defense this year. No longer will defensive end DeMarcus Ware roam the defensive back field.  We already know that linebacker Sean Lee will be out the entire year and a whole bunch of new rookies will try to make an impact this year. Yet, the biggest change could be the biggest positive for the new defense. After demoting Monte Kiffin, his trusted longtime assistant, Rod Marinelli will now take over the reins and be the defensive coordinator. While talent is needed to be able to compete, the way players play for this man could help boost the defense’s confidence and have them playing much better than they were in 2013. I am not saying this team will challenge Seattle for the top defense, but they will be more respectable. You can’t replace some of the superstars lost, but you can be much more competitive. Marinelli is the man for the job. There is a reason new defensive tackle Henry Melton signed with the Dallas Cowboys.
