With the Dallas Cowboys offseason in full swing, some Cowboys sites will be going into hibernation until the start of training camp in late July. But not The Landry Hat! For us, it’s easy to discuss, debate, and just plain old talk about our favorite team all year long because we love doing it. And it’s in that spirit that I believe it’s time for us fans to make some bold predictions about the upcoming 2014 regular season. Therefore, The Landry Hat is starting a new daily series called Over/Under.
It’s fairly simple. We’ll present you a daily topic. And you’ll tell us if you think that particular Cowboys player will get over or under that stat for the entire regular season and why.
Here’s today’s Over/Under question:
Will Anthony Spencer record seven sacks in 2014?
Here’s what you need to know: After playing less than 40 defensive snaps last season, Spencer is planning to return to the Cowboys after have the dreaded microfracture surgery on his knee. The former linebacker turned defensive end has struggled with this injury the past two years and could be placed on Dallas’ PUP list (Physically Unable to Perform) when the regular season starts in September. If he is, Spencer would not be able to play for the Cowboys until Week Seven. All parties involved hope to avoid that.
When healthy, 30-year old Spencer is certainly capable of getting seven sacks or more. In 2012, he was a first time Pro Bowler recording 95 total tackles and 11.0 sacks. Both the Cowboys and Spencer are hoping he can regain that level of performance in 2014.
