And it’s in that spirit that I believe it’s time for us fans to make some bold predictions about the upcoming 2014 regular season. Therefore, The Landry Hat is starting a new daily series called Over/Under.
It’s fairly simple. We’ll present you a daily topic, You’ll tell us if you think that particular Cowboys player will get over or under that stat for the entire regular season and why.
Here’s today’s Over/Under question:
Will DeMarcus Lawrence record 7 Sacks in 2014?
Here’s what you need to know: The Cowboys second round pick in 2014 (34th overall) will be competing for the starting role at defensive end during training camp against players like Anthony Spencer, George Selvie and Tyrone Crawford. But regardless of who starts, the rookie rusher will have plenty of opportunities to make an impact on this defense in sever need of pass rush. Especially in a Rod Marinelli defensive scheme which relies on a heavy amount of substitutions to creates waves of fresh defenders.
During his two-year stint at Boise State, the 6’3, 245 lbs. Lawrence recorded 120 total tackles, 34.0 tackles for a loss and 20.0 sacks. He is expected to try and help to fill the shoes of legendary All=Pro defensive end DeMarcus Ware, who was released earlier this offseason by the Cowboys and eventually ended up with the Denver Broncos.
