The Dallas Cowboys got devastating news late Tuesday night. Dallas will have to field a defense in 2014 that does not include middle linebacker and defensive leader Sean Lee. After tearing his ACL during the Cowboys first organized team activities of the offseason, Lee learned that his latest injury will sideline him for the entire 2014 season.

The Cowboys current linebacker corps includes:  Bruce Carter, Justin Durant, Anthony Hitchens (R), DeVonte Holloman, Cameron Lawrence, Orie Lemon, Dontavis Sapp (R), Will Smith (R), Kyle Wilber and Joe Windsor (R).

Although Dallas has depth at the position, their in-house linebackers lack experience. It would make sense that the Cowboys front office has started to comb the free agency list to find some veteran help. Therefore, I’ve complied a list of eight likely free agent candidates who could be signed by Dallas to help fill the void at linebacker left by the injured Lee.

We have enough players trying to come back from injuries.

  • Bill Smith

Johnathan Vilma, and after this, stop signing and drafting players with a history of injuries.

Dallas will be fined because they disobeyed the OTA rules of no Contact during these practices.

I’d consider Vilma for sure. Certainly if we are planning on starting anyone but Carter. However, the intriguing name you mentioned is London Fletcher. Sign me up right now for this ageless wonder. All this guy does is produce…even in his 50′s. lol Well that’s what it seemed like watching him maul us annually for what felt like an eternity. If I recall, he was solid even last year. I’ve never seen Fletcher look like he regressed. It’s time to put a solid season in for the good guys. lol

I think out of that group Vilma is the only option.

As I was researching for this article it really became evident that there isn’t much out there right now. And I keep hearing the same names being floated out there, but some of these details are being left out. Bottom line: If they are available right now, there certainly is a reason for it.

Dallas should develope Bruce Carter, Justin Durant, Anthony Hitchens (R), and DeVonte Holloman and determine if they are capable to start. The list provided by Steven consists of over the hill and injured or rehabbing and the Cowboys do not need to go there. Dallas is not making a Super Bowl run this year so lets find out what the future holds.
