The Cowboys Will Get Their Quarterback In 2015

The loudest noise surrounding the Dallas Cowboys following the 2014 NFL Draft was regarding the team passing on Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. The home-grown player was there when they picked at No. 16, and Dallas opted for a player that could help them right away in Notre Dame guard/tackle Zack Martin. Fans were split on the idea of passing on the home-town favorite. Some saw the flaws and the fact that the under-sized Manziel’s play style was most likely going to send him straight to the infirmary. Others were sure his gun-slinging, wreckless play would push a mediocre Dallas team over the top. Time will tell who is right.

Those who questioned Dallas’ first-round pick this year are far too near-sighted. If you look at this year’s quarterback draft class and compare them to the projected draft class for 2015 you’ll forget about Manziel and other quarterbacks very quickly. Here’s NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks top-5 quarterbacks for 2015:

  1. Jameis Winston, Florida State
  2. Marcus Mariota, Oregon
  3. Brett Hundley, UCLA
  4. Bryce Petty, Baylor
  5. Sean Mannion, Oregon State

The top-5 quarterbacks selected in this past Draft were far less impressive, with few projected to make any kind of impact in the near future. Here’s how it shook out, in case you missed it.

  1. Blake Bortles, Central Florida
  2. Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M
  3. Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville
  4. Derek Carr, Fresno St.
  5. Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois

And if you take into account that with the way the team is constructed, and the inevitable injuries that seem to plague the Cowboys on a yearly basis, they have a real shot at getting one of these top quarterbacks in the 2015 Draft.

If Dallas ends up in a spot where they will select a quarterback in the first round in 2015, who do you think they should select? One of the players on this list? Or maybe you have one you think would be a better fit or more accessible to Dallas when they’re on the clock? Here’s your chance to let the world know what you think. Besides, the 2014 season hasn’t even started yet and we’re just playing fantasy right now, so sound off.

We miss the playoffs again and I say we bring in Gruden and let him take his pick. 2nd option would be Sumlin outta a&m and either Mariota or Hundley. Feel like both could run his offense.

There are quarterbacks in every draft who are more than capable of being great pro players and running this Dallas team. Romo has made it public he plans to run this team until his legs fall off. If that’s the case, then drafting a big time QB as his replacement can cool down a little.

Of course, with his well documented medical history, a case can be easily made that Romo, the QB, is writing checks his surgically repaired back can’t cash.

The only thing I know for sure is, neither Weeden or Hanie are even remotely good enough or smart enough players to run this Dallas team, even for one real game series.

I’d love to have mariota but I don’t think we will be that bad to get him so it’s a long way away and we still don’t know who’s gonna show up when college ball starts so hopefully we win enough so we don’t have to go high on a qb and still plug in more guys to get this team going..

After the cowboys make the playoffs and Romo has a great year all this talk about drafting a QB will cease the naysayer fans and the so called experts (media) will be back on the bandwagon praising Mr Antonio Ramiro Romo GO COWBOYS ! ! True Cowboys Fan for Life

no qb in next draft, until 2016, select a good qb in 1st round, and develop him 1 season and he will start in 2017

It has been shown time and time again that average to just good QB’s can win Super Bowls in this league. The last 3 SB winning teams have had average QB’s. Dallas has built what should be a great O-line. They now need to build a dominant defense over the next few years. The team will then be able to win with Romo or an average qb.

The Cowboys should trade for Ryann Mallett QB for the Patriots. After all he is from Arkansas!

I would really love to see them take either Sean Mannion or Brett Hundley. Both are Pro-Style Qb’s that i think will translate well to the Pro game. They both have very good footwork, good pocket presence and throw beautiful deep balls.

I have learned there are always surprises between the summer and next years draft. We will draft QB and a starting free safety or two next year.
