The road to the NFL is never easy. And it’s different for each player. Those two points are particularly true about the Dallas Cowboys newest wide receiver L’Damian Washington. Before signing with Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri on Saturday afternoon, Washington was just another college prospect hoping to make his NFL dream come true.
But his journey to the league was documented in an inspirational short film by the Grantland Network entitled Pro Day: L’Damian Washington. Here’s their description of the film:
“After a strong year at wide receiver for the University of Missouri, L’Damian Washington is now an NFL draft prospect. “Pro Day: L’Damian Washington” tells the story of a young man who lost both parents and faces the pressure of providing for himself and his three brothers. Missouri’s pro day is where L’Damian will have the chance to prove those who doubt his ability wrong and change the lives of his family in Shreveport, Louisiana.”
You can watch the entire short film below:
Washington will now join current Cowboys receivers Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, Dwayne Harris and Cole Beasley. But before he can take his place beside them, he’ll have to once again prove himself. Something Washington obviously knows a lot about. Dallas is likely only to take five receivers onto their final 53-man roster, as they did last season. If that is true again this year, the reality could be Washington is competing with a number of other players for one open slot.
Other receivers wanting that lone spot include recent free agent signee LaRon Byrd, practice squad veteran Tim Benford, and the Cowboys 2014 fifth round pick out of Pittsburgh, Devin Street. Looks like the journey to his NFL dreams my just be beginning for Mr. Washington.
