The NFL draft may be the most exciting part of the offseason for most NFL fans. After months of gridiron drought it gives fans the opportunity to see what their team feels are things that need to be upgraded.
And with the sixteenth pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys select Zack Martin an offensive lineman from Notre Dame.
When I first heard the news I was elated. It didn’t take me long to realize that once again Jerry Jones has absolutely no idea what he was doing. Why was I so happy? Probably because Jerry hadn’t made the mistake of the century by selecting Johnny Manziel to run the team further into the ground. Instead Jerry spent his first rounder on another offensive tool.
Okay, so it may have been a great pick. Martin is almost a sure thing to be a great offensive lineman in the NFL, but does the Cowboys organization not realize how appalling the play of the defense was last year? Calvin Pryor was still on the board, as was Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
Looks like we’re waiting again for another mid round project to plug in at safety to accompany the rest of the bunch.
The Boys just drafted Demarcus Lawrence from Boise St. which is a step in the right direction as far as finding defensive players to get on the field, but was outside linebacker seriously one of our most pressing needs.
What about Kony Ealy, or Timmy Jernigan, or even Ra’Shede Hageman?
The draft is just getting started, and yes its true there are still several picks to be made, but the fact is plug and play players are quickly coming off the board.
I guess the only thing to wait for now is which tight end we will draft this year.
