According to Sport’s Illustrated writer Don Banks, the Dallas Cowboys two biggest needs are defensive tackle and safety. Other experts think the Cowboys biggest need is actually at defensive end. This is mainly due to the loss of All-Pro defensive end DeMarcus Ware back in March.

The Cowboys made two major free agency signings to address their defensive line needs. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Henry Melton and defensive end Anthony Spencer. Although both players are coming off injuries, Melton is seen as the player more likely to stick around past 2014. Whereas Spencer’s one-year deal is seen as a “prove it” type scenario for free agency purposes in 2015.

If that is the case, the Cowboys are in need of edge rushers far more than defensive tackles. The problem is all of the prospective defensive ends, with the exception of the projected top pick in Jadeveon Clowney, would be considered a reach at No. 16. Dallas would be better suited to either move down in the draft or simply get their edge rushers in later rounds.

As for the safety position, Dallas could have one of the top two players at that position available to them in the first round. But I’m fairly certain the team has not yet given up on their 2013 third round pick, safety J.J. Wilcox. Drafting another safety this high would negate that pick. And I don’t think the Cowboys are ready to do so.

Dallas also has a need for an offensive tackle. The Cowboys current right tackle, Doug Free, is in the final year of his latest contract. It is unclear whether the team will re-sign him in 2015. If Dallas could find a suitable replacement, Free would be potentially moved inside to guard to solidify the interior of the offensive line.

I can’t waste my time watching this video since he doesn’t even know what our biggest need is.

So you dont think the safety spot is one of their biggest needs?

      • Rich

DE is clearly the biggest need.

I did not say it wasnt. But safety is 2nd in need and if Barr is gone then there is no DE that has the value to take at 16.

I wish people would stop talking about Jernigan. He is a 1 tech for the love of god and Dallas does not value the 1 tech as high as other positions on the defense. Do some homework on their scheme and what six positions are the highes of need and value..
