Happy Draft day fellow Cowboys fans! I bet you are reading this and wondering who I think the Cowboys will take with the 16th pick tonight. To be honest, I really don’t even know anymore and it has been frustrating. Since I became a hardcore fan of football, I could always give a good argument on who the Cowboys would take.
This year has been a totally different experience for me; this year has been the most wide open draft I have seen in years. This could lead to the Cowboys selecting one player that would shock the world. There have been seven players that have been linked to the Cowboys this year, including the most polarizing player of them all, Johnny “Freaking Football” Manziel.
While Pittsburgh’s Aaron Donald and UCLA’s Anthony Barr have been linked to the Cowboys as the favorites, Manziel has recently been building up steam as the Cowboys’ pick this year. Earlier reports from around the league had the Manziel going to Dallas and recent reports now say the Cowboys might even trade down if Manziel is at 16. As a writer covering the Cowboys, I would love Johnny going to Dallas because it means I would have plenty of story lines to work with.
As a fan, I would slam my head against the wall and curse out Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones for reverting back to his ringmaster ways. Manziel joining the Cowboys would put this franchise back not only on the field, but would put this team in a financial hell. Starting quarterback Tony Romo’s contract kicks in this year; which would annihilate the Cowboys’ cap if it were voided this year.
Luckily for the fans and I, the Cowboys have denied their interest in picking up the Texas A&M quarterback. Regardless, until the Cowboys pick their player or Manziel gets picked, the speculation will continue throughout the night. It is going to be a fun night tonight watching what the Cowboys will do.
There is hope that the franchise has changed their philosophy and wants to select the player that will help the team in the most effective way. Just let’s hope Jerry and Johnny don’t find each other; those two will be an unholy combination of sports egos. God help us all! Happy Draft Day!
