The reality is that the Cowboys have stated that the rumors are false. They are not interested in drafting Manziel but the idea of doing so is intriguing. I make no apologies but I have been an Aggie fan for many years and loved the possibility of seeing Johnny Football emerge from the entrance way in AT&T Stadium, jumping up and down, getting the fans pumped up, while sporting a Dallas Cowboys uniform.
Jason Garrett’s offense would flourish with Manziel at the helm and with the defensive additions made in the off-season and the change at defensive coordinator, it could possibly get them at the 8-8 slump the team has put its self through the last few years. Another factor to consider is this: Romo is 34 years old and despite the fact that Jones loves him now, come next season that love will be tested as Romo will be slated to make $17 million dollars in 2015. The fact that he just came off of back surgery has to make you wonder if drafting the kid from Aggieland isn’t a bad idea.
With all things being equal, Manziel will probably go to the Cleveland Browns and waste away there for a few seasons before his rookie contract expires. Dallas will continue to draft defensive players to repair a defense that finished last in the NFL and so it should. Jason Garrett’s coaching staff cannot survive another mediocre season and have the defense not improve. The Cowboys have a better chance at drafting Jadeveon Clowney, the other possible first round pick, who just so happens to be a defensive player in a spot Dallas could use to improve on.
