With the NFL Draft just a few weeks away, the Dallas Cowboys are once again trying to fill several needs with good, young prospects. As the offseason has progressed, so has the speculation about which players the Cowboys will be selecting in April. Unfortunately, a majority of prospects simply don’t pan out for one reason or another. So, before we look to the future with this new batch of rookies, let’s look at the recent past and rank the worst Dallas Cowboys draft picks of the 2000’s.
Every NFL team has to deal with draft busts. But the Cowboys have had particularly bad luck with theirs. And that has had a direct correlation to their lack of success in this decade and beyond.
From possible first round busts like linebacker Bobby Carpenter and cornerback Morris Claiborne to the Cowboys infamous 2009 draft class, ranking Dallas’ biggest draft blunders is not an easy task. One of the things I believe you must take into account when ranking players on such a list is which round they were drafted in. As a lower round means higher expectations. Therefore, I encourage you to use the Cowboys draft history information which I have included for your review underneath the ranker tool.
Speaking of our new ranking system, I’m happy to announce a partnership with Ranker.com. Their software allows our readers to rank these players by simply clicking on a vote up or down. A “thumbs up” means you believe this player belongs higher on the list. A “thumbs down” means this player should be ranked be lower or not even on the list.
The combined results instantly appear on the ranker and on the site itself. Please place your votes below and check back to see what the list evolves into as the day progresses.
