Dec 28, 2013; Bronx, NY, USA; Notre Dame Fighting Irish offensive tackle Zack Martin (70) is awarded the game

Most Cowboys fans familiar with their team’s realistic draft options are already aware of the name Zack Martin.  The 6’4, 308 lbs. OG/OT from Notre Dame is among a handful of worthy players likely available for the Cowboys’ 16th pick.

No doubt this could change quickly as talented, accomplished OT’s are typically a premium in any NFL draft.  With 3 other OT’s commonly projected above Martin, the chances he’s on the board at 16 remain high.

In the event Dallas selects Zack Martin, Cowboys’ faithful should feel nothing short of excitement.  His immediate and future value to this vastly improving OL will provide enormous, lasting dividends.

I’m not saying to dismiss knee jerk reactions if Martin beats out DT Aaron Donald.  Or even replaces another highly projected star who mysteriously fell to Dallas.

If nothing goes too astray from projected selection order (it always does), Martin is an extremely valuable addition in the 16th slot.  Defense is certainly a top priority, yet Martin’s excellent fit is undeniable.
