Better Draft Pick: A Prospect With Injury Concerns Or Character Concerns?

In an ideal world, every NFL prospect would be perfect. Unfortunately, this isn’t an ideal world and all prospects come with some sort of baggage. It’s just a matter of picking your poison. And two of the biggest concerns are a history of injury and/or a history of off-the-field problems. And the Dallas Cowboys have a history of selecting players with both. But if you had to choose one, which would you pick for Dallas?

The Cowboys certainly have a history of selecting players with injury concerns. Both linebackers Sean Lee and Bruce Carter enter their perspective NFL Drafts coming off devastating season-ending injuries. Both players were selected by the Cowboys in the second round of their drafts. And both players have struggled with injuries while playing for the Cowboys. Then you have an undrafted player like guard Ron Leary, who has a degenerative knee injury that is expected to limit his career.

Dallas also has a history of taking chances on players with character concerns. The biggest example of this is wide receiver Dez Bryant.  The Cowboys traded up to select Bryant in 2010 after he landed on suspension, missing his last year at Oklahoma State. Since being drafted, Dez has had his share of off-the-field problems. But his on-the-field play has now overshadowed his previous issues.

Under the current regime, head coach Jason Garrett seemingly will not even consider drafting a prospect with either injury or character issues now. But sometimes, talent trumps those concerns.

Here’s today’s poll question – Which player would you draft for the Cowboys: A prospect with injury concerns or character concerns? Leave your vote below and feel free to explain your choice in the comments section.
