LANDRY HAT MOCK DRAFT LOGONow that the NFL Scouting Combine is over, teams have a far better idea of who they want to select in the upcoming NFL Draft. As per usual, the rankings have changed once again and a whole new order is being mocked below. That also includes a new pick by the Dallas Cowboys at a defensive position not many in the media are addressing when it comes to America’s Team.

In my first post-combine mock draft, I have tried my best to anticipate the selections by each club based on team needs and the newest player rankings. Here’s my full first round mock draft plus my detailed explanation of the Cowboys pick:

First of all, nothing should be based on Ware or Spencer. Spencer has undergone a very difficult procedure and is 30. He may never play to his 2012 level. Ware is falling apart before our eyes. Ergo, neither should be counted on. Talented DL youth is the future and the future is now.
Richardson and Ward would be excellent picks. Though Ward would mean we are kind of giving up on JJ Wilcox.
Not sure what injuries Mosley has had, but the very mention of that scares me. Mosley would be a really good pick since our LBs can’t stay healthy. Next year, if Lee and Carter can’t stay healthy, then we need to move on. I know that Lee is signed long term. Durant was invisible last year. Love Sims effort, but he is to small to play every down week after week. Holloman is a playmaker. So if Mosley becomes the Mike, where does Lee go? I don’t see Lee as the SAM and Carter is already the Will.
Anyway, if Lewan or Jernigan are still available, then the Boys should take one. Lewan is a sure thing and will set the OL edges for the next 10 years. Possibly move Free to G? Jernigan brings talent to the weakest position on the team.

I want to go defense as well. But after the combine Mike Evans had…I don’t think there is any way JJ could pass up pairing him with Dez Bryant. Evans, 6’5, 235, ran a legit 4.53 and his hands drills were spectacular. Those guys would be a match-up nightmare together. Especially around the goal line also. Jerry has been going on about WR not being settled a lot lately. This guy is a potential Pro Bowler and day 1 starter that would pair with a star WR already. Would be nasty. JJ loves those kind of sexy picks.

I also believe they will keep Ware, then sign either Spencer or Hatcher back. Meaning that with Ware and Crawford, and either Spencer or Hatcher back…JJ doens’t see the DL as in disarray as us fans realize it is. They also believe there is a lot of DL talent in the draft and can build it in any of the 2nd-4th rounds also. I prefer either Donald or Barr/Mosley/Mack at 16, but after watching Evans at combine, I know JJ would LOVE to get a crack at him at 16.
