Nov 18, 2012; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne (24) – defensive end Anthony Spencer (93) – linebacker DeMarcus Ware (94) – defensive tackle Jason Hatcher (97) – linebacker Bruce Carter (54) – nose tackle Jay Ratliff (90) and cornerback Brandon Carr (39) on the line of scrimmage before a play during the game against the Cleveland Browns at Cowboys Stadium. Reason 1: There is Defensive Line Depth On The Roster

Remember Tyrone Crawford? What about Ben Bass? Everette Brown made some big plays in games. There is hidden depth on the defensive line, but people seem to have forgotten about it. Crawford has the ability to play either the one or three technique. Jason Hatcher claimed in training camp that Ben Bass was going to be the reason the team moved on from him. Bass missed the year with an injury, but will be returning in 2014.

We all hope that Crawford and Bass are the real deal, but their limited to no body of work makes them a hope only. Who knows if they can contribute like we all hope and for any length of time. Hatcher is gone and if not, then please don’t sign him to a big money contract at his age. I would welcome Brent back. He made a huge mistake, but people have done worse and been giving another chance. Regarding the draft, first round talent cannot be found in the later rounds. There’s a huge difference between starters and first round picks and 2nd stringers in the NFL. The talent level drop off is major.

Not sure I necessarily agree about there being THAT big of a drop-off after the first round. Murphy, Sutton, Tuitt, Quarrels, Jones, Lawrence, Martin, Clarke, and even Mammoth McCullers could start for many teams in the league. Only Tuitt and Murphy have been given 1st round grades by some mocks and big boards.

      • Reid Hanson

I agree about the deep talent in the second. I think someone’s gonna get a great deal there!

Agreed on the draft rounds. I should have just stated between starters and 2nd stringers in the NFL. Regarding the draft, we all know Seattle’s late round draft success, but no one else seems to be able to copy that. For Dallas, the top three rounds have to count.

Others have done worse & been welcomed back? He is responsible for taking his teammates life. What players have done worse than that?

      • ctcowboy1968

Ok, maybe not worse, but the same situation. There have been a handful of NFL players that have committed vehicular homicide in the past five years and continued to play after a suspension. I can’t remember their names offhand, but there was a starting WR for the Browns and a Saints player.

Delusional piece! Hatcher is over the hill and we need not torture the salary cap for an old man who will probably retire within 1-2 years. Josh Brent is avearage at besy and the idiot commish will expel him for a year if he attempts to come back. Tyronne has been a no show and Ben Bass and Everette Brown are average at best. D. Ware’s extreme high cap number reflects the vast ignorance of a GM (Jerrah) who can’t judge talent, overpays aging players, and has no idea about managing the salaries to fit the cap. Restructuring a player’s salary is “kicking the can down the road instead of fixing the problem.” That can has now come home to roost and it is biting Jerrah in the ass. The Cowboys are now in a rebuilding mode! Jerrah has destroyed the viability of the team as it cannot be sustained by arrogance, ego, and stupidity! Stop drinking the Jerrah coolaide!

I hope Josh Brent is banned for 3 years to life. This is his second time with DUI issue and he tested positive for drugs while he waited for the trial.
If you have to depend upon a murderer to save your defensive line then we should all just save our money instead of spending it on the Cowboys.
