By that I mean that he manned up. He did the job and he did so well that some fans, including me, have a little bit of confidence in him going into 2014. Now, by saying that I am not implying I do not want to improve at Right or Left Guard. There is no such thing as a position I am not interested in improving. I’ll welcome Brian Waters back if we want him to and he wants to give it another shot. I’ll welcome a draft pick. It doesn’t matter to me as long as we improve on OL.
The point is though that he did. His play to close out 2013 was good enough for me to have more confidence in him in 2014 if we do not re-sign Waters or go Guard early in the Draft. I am going to maintain a trend for now and give Bernadeau a B as well.
Well, that’s where the Bs end though. Now we go to center and our rookie 1st round Draft pick in 2013, Travis Frederick. The most controversial player of the 1st round if you listened to all the pundits after we chose him at pick 31. What was Dallas doing? I have a one word answer for that. Improving. In 2012 the Center position in Dallas was a revolving door. Frederick came in and nailed that sucker shut.
We all know that Center is the anchor of the OL. He calls the blocking assignments and gets the ball into the hands of the Quarterback. I’m going to give Travis Frederick some very high praise here. I think he was the best Center we have had since Ray Donaldson retired. Yes, I think he is better than Andre Gurode. Some people will raise their eyebrows at that given the fact Gurode was a multi-time Pro Bowl Center for us. 5 straight years in fact from 2006 to 2010. he also did not usually call the line calls. For a long time that was Kyle Kosier.
