Dallas Cowboys: You Could Have Drafted Seattle’s Kam Chancellor!

So the Dallas Cowboys again watched the Super Bowl from home this year. And I am sure they were counting their blessings they weren’t facing that insanely good defense run by the Seattle Seahawks. If you tried to compare Dallas’ defense to the Seahawks, it would be like one of those before and after pictures you would see on a diet infomercial. Oh and the Cowboys would be the ugly, hairy, fat, before person.

The Cowboys will have to face that defense next year though. And as a scary a thought that is for most fans, we have to deal with it. It might even be the season opener on primetime, because Dallas still somehow generate a lot of ratings for being so mediocre. How do the Cowboys avoid such an embarrassment?

Very Simple! Have the owner Jerry Jones, fire the general manager Jerry Jones immediately! Now, you might be saying that is a tired old argument…and it is. But I found some new evidence that really pissed me off about Mr. Jones.

Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor, the all-pro hard hitting safety, was drafted in the 5th round of the 2010 NFL draft. The Cowboys had the 126th pick in the 4th round and selected cornerback Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.Their intent was to convert him over to safety. The Seahawks came in just a few picks later and picked Chancellor. Now, Seattle’s pick is celebrating being a Super Bowl champion and an All-Pro safety. And Dallas’ pick has bounced between five different teams in his short four-year career, most recently landing on the Detroit Lions roster in December. That has to be a kick to the crotch for Cowboys fans.

Jones has a history of terrible draft decisions. Remember, Dallas also had a chance to select Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy in 2009. But team officials felt they had pretty good running backs in Marion Barber and Felix Jones. Both players would eventually leave the team disappointed and the Cowboys selected Oklahoma back DeMarco Murray in the third round just two years later. WOW!

So the only way the Cowboys can be assure to be competitive with Seattle next year is to draft better. With Jerry in charge, it doesn’t look so good.

Anyone who reads this will have absolutely zero arguments. I wonder where at in the process Jerry “really” starts listening to his scouts and others who monitor and grade college level players.

Hindsight is always 20/20 Dallas not just Jerry make decisions on draft day as a team. In this case we will call them Dallas. And I think Dallas has made some really good draft picks as of late. S. Lee, D. Bryant, T. Smith, B. Carter,T. Frederick, Twill, O. Scandrick, B. Church just to name a few are great to really good players for the Cowboys

Although there are others who have input Jerry picks the players on draft day, especially if there is discussion between two players and agreement can not be made. This was outlined in one of skip bayless’ early books about the early years of jj. With saying that I know it’s hit an miss in the draft but I’ll play that game:
        2006: (1) bobby carpenter- bust, (2) Anthony fasano-like m.bennett a bust, (4) styler green-bust
        2007: (2) j. Marten-bust, (3)Isaiah stanbech qb switched to wr-bust, (4) free and he’s been up and down.
2008: (1) Felix jones- bust based on his work and who they passed up on, (2) m. Jenkins- very serviceable, (3) martellus bennet- BUST, (4) tashard choice wasted pick
2009: READ CAREFULLY, the entire 12 picks was a disaster, not a single selection is with the team 5 years later.
2010: Bryant and lee are studs, lee was a easy first rounder and no brainier but dropped to 2nd cause of health issues (which has followed him to this team so the jury is still out on him. 3of the other 4bpicks are not on team. Lissemore in 7th was a find.
2011: picks 4-7 minus dewayne harris are no longer on team.
I’ve been watching this organization since a kid in 1969 and remember when it wasa proud organization. I give jj his respect when he deserves it but all too often he falls short on so many levels.

Also dont forget about the Mo trade that sent Wagner to seattle, Also in 2011 Dallas draft Josh Thomas over Richard Sherman
… I know you can hit on every pick but to miss on 2 players that hard? To improperly evaulate your board that bad.
