Here’s my take:

“Regardless of what the Cowboys record is from season to season, the moniker ‘America’s Team’ represents the history of the franchise over what their current state is. When I think of that term, I think of Tom Landry, Roger Staubach and the team of the 1970’s. For me, it’s more about what the star represents in history over what we are or are not now.“
