The Dallas Cowboys are in off-season mode and their season was once again an up and down roller coaster, ending in 8-8 for the third straight year. For some players, this will be the last time they play in a Dallas Cowboys uniform and for some coaches they will be gracing other teams’ sidelines next season.
Now that the off-season is in full swing early again for Dallas fans, we as fans need to look into next year. With all the free agents, restricted and otherwise, a few of them will be hot commodities on the free agency market. None of these potential free agents are more important to lock up than Dallas’ kicker Dan Bailey.
Stop laughing, it’s true. Name me one other player on the team that has been as consistent and reliable as Bailey? The interesting thing about Bailey is after the season ended; he came out and said he’d love to stay in Dallas because “he loves kicking here”.
In Bailey’s three-year career here in Dallas, he has gone 123/123 on extra points kicked, and 89/98 on field goals with his percentage at 90.8 per kick. Not only has Bailey had a few game winning kicks for the Cowboys and but he has been phenomenal on kickoffs as well and just for the record, he’s made a few good tackles as well.
So besides his reliability and him being one of the few bright spots on an otherwise inconsistent team, Bailey is very humble and states he just wants to be the best he can be. Bailey’s tune is a lot different than a few of the other free agents who look at the NFL as a business case in point, defensive player Jason Hatcher. Bailey is a keeper!
So our only hope Dallas fans is for our owner Jerry Jones to finally sign someone who’s worth it! A player who actually understands what it’s like to wear the star with dignity and honor! At least we, the fans, know, after 3 seasons, that Dan Bailey is probably the most reliable player and in my very humble opinion, quite possibly the teams’ MVP.
