While the Dallas Cowboys still have a shot to win the division on Sunday night, the chances of quarterback Tony Romo playing are still pretty slim and backup quarterbacks Kyle Orton and Jon Kitna really don’t seem capable of pulling out a victory. If in fact they do miss the playoffs for the third straight year, I really do anticipate Head Coach Jason Garrett being fired, but who would replace him as head coach? While it is premature to speculate on future head coaches while Garrett still has the job, I thought it would be fun to see what potential candidates could come in here and revitalize the franchise.

Mike Tomlin:

When I see Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomilin on the sidelines, I see a tough coach that doesn’t fool around at all. He looks mean, he is young, he is energetic and he knows how to get the best out of his players.  He has won a Super Bowl with the Steelers and also has taken them to another one, losing to the Green Bay Packers in 2010. He is a proven winner and could be a perfect fit here in Dallas.  The only problem with him is that lately he has been acting very questionable and has been getting into a rift with his offensive coordinator. I doubt Tomlin will get fired after this year, but if he does, don’t be surprised if the Cowboy give him a call.

You forgot Nick Saban or give Jimmy Johnson a gabillion dollars and lock Jerry in a room and leave him alone.

This story is just nonsense. Garrett isn’t going anywhere. He’s gone 5-3, 8-8, 8-8, and could go 9-7 this season. He’s never had a losing record while here as head coach. We have been decimated with injuries on defense the past 2 seasons and I think Jerry understands that it isn’t Garrett’s fault and he is doing a good job of getting the players he does have ready to play. I would fire Callahan and Kiffen. Callahan hasn’t been successful anywhere he has been and sucks at play-calling. The game has passed Kiffen and his Tampa 2 doesn’t work anymore. Give Garrett another draft, 2 great coordinators, and a healthy bunch on defense, then see what happens.

      Totally agree!!!!!

Really? Where were all these excuses when Phillips was coach? He went 13-3and 11-5. He had one bad season that he didn’t even get to finish and everyone was ready for him to go. He didn’t get to pick his own OC and he had to fire his DC and despite all of that he was successful. Garrett on the other hand has done nothing but be mediocre. He is not head coach material and he wasn’t even a good coordinator. He should have been fired a long time ago!!!

As a man, I think Garrett is a genuinely nice guy with good intentions. Unfortunately, we all know what that buys you in the Bigs. He’s just made too many mistakes and judgmental errors, some of which have directly resulted in losses. In some other system he might be able to be more than he’s shown here. Under the thumb of Jones, however, even if he gets another season, his days are still numbered. The man oughtta go!

If Garrett goes 8-8 he will have exactly 0 full seasons with a WINNING record, ’nuff said.

Argument goes both ways. Glass half full half empty.

        • Nathan Stenson

The “glass” analogy is an argument related to value. An 8-8 record would technically be both a non-losing and non-winning season. That we are discussing this fact is ludicrous, and in itself is strong evidence that there are huge problems in Big D. The point of the naysayers, myself included, is that we expect so much more from the Cowboys. Our angst is directly correlated to our love of the team. The fact remains that there is absolutely no excuse for the mediocrity that we have been subjected to. The fact remains that we are not contenders in a league with parity. We want things to change, and we want that to happen yesterday. Hell, I would rather you be the GM than Jerry. The difference isn’t value, it’s expectation. Some of us demand excellence, while others accept (and defend) plain vanilla.

Well stated. Im distraught still over this loss and ending season, AGAIN. You hit the nail on the head. Kudos.

  • Old Frog

If Garrett is as successful as I think he can be he’s here for another decade…at least!

The only thing that can saved the cowboys is a time machine!!

  • disqus_kLJwdEdnOL

The only person I see on this list who would be willing to work for Jerry Jones is Jason Garrett.

  • Josh Hart

Jerry Jones finally realizes the errors of his ways and decides to hire…..HIMSELF! He will be owner/GM/head coach and take his team to the Super Bowl.

  • Kingdaddy2000

How about our old Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer? Doing well in Cincinnati, and now that we’re back to a 4-3, it’s his style of defense. He has some fire that Garrett lacks.

  • ctcowboy1968

JG is awful and should have been fired when he was the OC. He is out coached every game. He never learns from his mistakes. He has one of the best seats in the house, yet he doesn’t see what is going on. Every year is good for 2 losses on his own. Those 2 loses have kept us out the playoffs the past two years.

  • jrcowboy49

None of the coaches are accepible and don’t mention that idiot Shannahan again. Garrett will remain as no good Coach will work with our idiot GM Jerrah!

  • fredbeard

I laugh at articles like this if not for so many injuries Garrett would be in the mix for coach of the year for turning the Cowboys around and Mr. Jones knows that that’s why he’ll be the coach next year so put those fantasy football coaches list away for another year GO COWBOYS ! !
