Barring some act of God, this season is pretty much over for the Cowboys. This is when everyone rants and raves about who is and isn’t to blame. Jerry Jones is always a popular target, followed by Jason Garret, and now Monte Kiffin (Romo seems to have the year off).
Most of us were taught at any early age that things don’t always go the way we would like them to. We were also taught that kicking, screaming, and any other form of tantrums rarely amount to any progress. For some reason, where organized sports are concerned, childhood lessons are out the window.
I know it is frustrating watching the team seemingly stagnate over the last several years, but I think that is a negative perception of what’s really been happening.
We now have Dez Bryant, easily one of the top five receivers in the league in ability, and he is only going to continue to get better.
The same goes for Sean Lee, who if we can keep off the injury list, has a commanding presence on the field and leads this defense in both stats and spirit. We have only begun to see what Lee is capable of.
Demarco Murray is starting to stretch his legs and make a solid and consistent contribution to this team for the first time since running behind Fiammetta.
Lance Dunbar was incredibly impressive in what was, unfortunately, his last outing of the season. I’m very excited to see what next season brings for him.
Terrance Williams was a strong contributor this season and will only continue to get better.
Tony Romo seems to be putting up better stats year after year, and because he didn’t start his career as early as most I would have to think he has several years left.
What can you say about Beasley? He has become the go to for clutch 3rd down passes and more often than not comes up with the first. Such impressive ability in such a small package…the Cowboy’s very own Mighty Mouse.
Frederick was impressive in his rookie year and as one of the smarter players in the league, he will develop faster than most.
Our special teams play is much improved over last year and so is our turnover ratio.
I know it can be hard to find optimism when drowning in disappointment, but we really do have a solid team missing a few key components. I think we underestimated how much offensive line help we needed last season. This season I have to imagine it will be addressed more significantly.
So this year turned into another unremarkable inconsistent season. I believe next year will be better, and the next even better than that. Do I have any facts to back this up? Absolutely not, but in the absence of fact…I have faith.
