The Tales of Two Cowboys

As we all know, last Thursday was Thanksgiving. The Cowboys were featured in their annual Thanksgiving tradition of hosting a game. Since I’m Canadian, I celebrated my Thanksgiving in October. However, I’m always willing to clear my schedule for a Cowboys game. I went to my local sports bar to catch the game, and watched the Cowboys defeat the Raiders. A win is always pleasant, but football is a sport where you can always improve on something.

During Raiders and Cowboys game, I saw three teams playing rather than two. The Cowboys in the second half were a very different team than the Cowboys in the first half. They ran the ball well, they passed well, and the defense looked good. The way this team played in the second half truly made me believe that they’re a playoff caliber team. This is the Cowboys team that kept up with the Broncos in a shootout. This is the Cowboys team that destroyed the Rams 31-7. This is the Cowboys team that makes us believe we have a chance every week.

Unfortunately, we don’t see that team often enough. What we usually see are the first half Cowboys. Against the Raiders they lost a fumble for a touchdown on the first play of the game. They offense couldn’t move the ball effectively. The defense allowed them to score 21 points in the first half and made the stone handed Andre Holmes look like a superstar. It’s amazing that these two teams wear the same star on their helmet. They look like complete opposite of each other.

We all know this story too well. It’s like the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The Tales of Two Cowboys. The Cowboys play poorly at first and put themselves in a hole. They then drink the serum sometime in the second half and turn into valiant Dr. Jekyll. We fight back and put ourselves in a position to win, but sometimes it’s too late. If we want to be a Super Bowl contender, we need to get rid of this formula. We need to find consistency. The Cowboys are capable of being a great football team, but their biggest problem is they can’t find that team most of the time. As fans I’m sure we’re all disappointed and frustrated with this. We still have hope though, for the season still have many possibilities. Jason Garrett, the fate of the team rests in your hand.
