Would You Trade Tony Romo For The NFL Draft's First Pick in 2014?

Here’s my take:

“I think most of us agree. There are a lot of things wrong with the Dallas Cowboys right now. But for the most part quarterback Tony Romo isn’t one of them. Sure, I think at times this year he’s been overly conservative. And there are rumors his recent bland play could be contributed to a hidden back injury. But the fact is, Romo is getting older. Although he spent his first couple seasons holding a clipboard, the 33-year old is probably at the height of his career. And I’m not sure Romo’s style of play translates as well as Brett Favre did or Peyton Manning does in their later years. This poll question is really would you trade Romo for another possible Andrew Luck? Does Romo’s experience and escapability outweigh the unknowns that surround a talented young player who could be your franchise quarterback for the next 15 years? My answer: If Luck was available, I’d say yes. But because I don’t think there is a “can’t miss” quarterback in next year’s draft, I’d lean towards keeping Romo. But honestly, not by much.”

I would have to have more than a number 1 pick for Romo, TB would be a good landing spot for him. If we trade Romo we would have to trade Witten,,Ware, and Dez Bryant as well. As long as JJ is making the selection this team will go backward in it talent. Ware,Witten and Romo are all Parcel Guys

  • californy

JG would have to be removed from the equation, If Romo is dealt . This team need a real head coach who has a track record of developing Quarterbacks.

  • SmartThinking

    This story is pure whimsy.

Romo is not going anywhere. Sure, Jones won’t consider it. But more importantly, there’s no sane team in this league stupid enough or rich enough to buy Romo and his ludicrously rich contract. I cannot think of one team in that sorry a shape and that rich.

Regardless of which side you line up on re: his abilities, we’re stuck with Romo until he decides to pack it in.

    End of story.

  • Old Frog

A little late. I was advocating trading everybody, including Romo, Austin, Ratliff, and Spencer, before the last draft and Romo’s big deal, now we’re stuck.

  • Old Frog

Never did understand Aikman’s statement that Romo is a better quarterback than he was. How many times did we listen to Madden say during games that he thought Aikman was the most accurate passer in the NFL? How many times have we heard anyone say that about Romo?

    • californy

Aikman had 8 Pro Bowl player on offense in 1994 when he went 13 td to 12 interception. Aikman was nothing more than the bus driver. If you want a real SB team you need to get player who win in the trenches. Ravens won it twice with an average QB in Dilfer and then Flacco.

      • oneputter

a bus driver who did it 3x, gimme a break, this guy was a top notch qb, qb’s like him command the team, it was evident in how those teams moved and played.
8 does not get enough credit for how he kept that team together with all the drama they had going on during those days!

  • oneputter

I would trade him for a 2nd rd rick

  • petevieira1

we need a change of mind set, first change MUST be Jerry, then a good GM and HQ can decide the rebuild.

  • cowboyup

Romo deserves a better team. He will continue to disappoint with a poor offensive line. Be smart and trade him for best value while you can! Defense still wins championships if you have a ball control offense. Not exciting but effective.

  • Mark James

57% would trade Romo? 57% just proved to me that they have no idea what Jerry’s track record is when it comes to drafting quarterbacks. SMMFH!!!

  • Jerry Lee

If our offensive line was better Romo would be a better QB

  • JC

in a HEART BEAT, with his salary could sign multiple players and still sign a Quality QB, ROMO OVERRATED always chokes under pressure, how many more years of LOSING Jerry, Maybe someone should create a Jerry Jones Bag with his face on it to cover the fans face for being a LOSER OWNER!!!!!!!!

  • David Kerr

AJ McCarron throwing to Dez? No real upgrade to be had there. I’d stick with Romo for sure.

  • Hank

I would trade Romo, for Romo’s sake, to give him an opportunity in a winning organization. After over 45 years as a steadfast DC fan, I honestly don’t care anymore. The problem is JJ GM. Peyton Manning wouldn’t help this team.

    • AJ

Thank you so much. I agree 100%

  • Juanito Juanito

denver trade tebow to jets because they know that with tebow denver will not have a ring, cowboys should do the same, romo will never win 3 or 4 big games in playoffs in a row to have a ring, history prove it, ¨1 win 6 loses in games to win or go home, talent but no guts, dallas have more problems but romo is a big one

  • SamuraiKrft

I would trade him for another first round pick…Johnny Football baby

  • bril

tony no show has a lack of heart an that’s going to hurt his own chances of being a super bowl champion. All teams know to just hang around close to the cowboys until 4th quarter, an then put pressure on Romo, an he will definitely throw the pick, defenses wait for this everytime, and tony never lets us down at doing it. TRADE THE BUM. The coach isn’t playing.

    • bupalos

Browns are going to give you their #5-9 overall for him, and you guys get Manziel. Book it.
