Dallas is allegedly looking for a starting running back who can stay healthy enough to carry the load. A veteran like the Jacksonville Jaguars Maurice Jones-Drew could be a short term fill-in and is rumored to be on the trading block.

There have also been recent rumors that All-World running back Adrian Peterson should be traded out of Minnesota. The addition of Peterson to Dallas makes sense simply because he’s from Palestine, TX and he is likely a Dallas Cowboys fan. But considering he’ll be paid twice as much as any starting running back in the league for the next couple years makes him a no-go financially. And this would also require a reverse  Hershel Walker-type package of picks from Dallas as well.

Some of the bigger running back names that come to mind when thinking of  possible trade partners are Carolina’s Jonathan Stewart, Cincinnati’s BenJarvis Green-Ellis, Denver’s Knowshon Moreno, and New Orleans’ Mark Ingram. But instead, look for Dallas to target a running back who is under the radar but has big upside. They would also likely be in the final year of a contract with their current team. Names like Houston’s Ben Tate, New England’s LeGarrette Blount and Detroit’s Joique Bell make more sense. The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, October 29th. Dallas has until then to pull the trigger.
