Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins Injury Report: Austin In, Dunbar Out

The Dallas Cowboys will faced off against their NFC East foe, the Washington Redskins, during Sunday Night Football tonight in Arlington. For specific game time and channel information, click here. The Cowboys are in the midst of a two game skid and lost both games against the Redskins last season. But injuries have affected both teams so far in 2013.

Washington is coming off their Week Five bye-week and it appears they will be at full strength on Sunday night against Dallas. But the lingering knee issues surrounding Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin will most likely be a deciding factor in this game. Griffin has struggled to regain the form he showed last season, when he ended the year with a playoff bid, both the AP and Sporting News offensive rookie of the year awards and an invitation to the Pro Bowl. He also ended the year in extreme pain after he suffered a major right knee injury.

In the last two games of this season, the post-surgery Griffin has recorded just one touchdown and one interception, leading Washington to a 1-3 record. The biggest injury question going into this game is will RG3 ever be the same?

On the other side of the field, the Dallas Cowboys will have veteran wide receiver Miles Austin back in the fold. Austin missed the previous two games with a hamstring injury. But they will be without back-up running back Lance Dunbar and linebacker/special teams ace Edgar Jones. With the absence of Dunbar, expect second year running back Phillip Tanner to get an increased workload. We might even get a chance to see rookie halfback Joseph Randle for the first time this season.

Listed as questionable on Dallas’ injury report is linebacker Justin Durant. Durant missed last week’s game against the Denver Broncos due to a groin injury. If he is unable to return tonight, veteran Ernie Sims will continue in his place. The Cowboys also activated linebacker Cameron Lawrence off the practice squad to fill the roster spot left open by this week’s release of safety Will Allen.
