Redskins Verses Cowboys: Matchups to Watch

After a tough loss to the Broncos, this week is a game of retribution and redemption for the Cowboys. Romo will be looking to bounce back after a costly interception late in the fourth quarter. The defense needs to redeem themselves for allowing over 400 yards to three different opposing quarterbacks. In general, the Cowboys needs to step up and redeem themselves this week and there’s no better opponent than the Redskins.

The Redskins defeated the Cowboys last year in Week 17 for the NFC East division title. It was a game that was concluded by an interception by Romo. It was a painful loss for Cowboys Nation. However, the Cowboys will now get a chance to redeem themselves from the Week 17 loss as well. In order to do so, there are a couple of match ups that our players need to win.

The first battle to watch is Ware verses Trent Williams. The veteran pass rusher goes up against a young rising star. Trent Williams is playing well in his young career, but Ware should easily be able to beat him. An extension of this match up is Ware verses RG3. Last year the Redskins purposely left Ware unblocked when they ran the read-option towards him. There were many times last year, where RG3 would be able to freeze him using the read-option and rendering him useless. Hopefully Ware figured out a way to beat RG3 and the read-option and will wreck havoc on the Redskins offense on Sunday.

The next match up to watch is Pierre Garcon verses Brandon Carr. So far, Garcon has 29 receptions, 339 yards, and 2 touchdowns. He is the Redskins best receiver and has had a good 2013 season so far. Carr has played well this year, and will have the task of facing Garcon. The Redskins don’t have a strong wide receiver corp outside of Garcon, so if Carr can shut down Garcon,  the Redskins offense becomes one dimensional.

The final match up to keep an eye on is Tony Romo verses the Redskins defense. Romo had an amazing game against the Broncos. Hopefully, he can carry over this momentum when facing the Redskin. The Redskins defense has struggled this year, so Romo can lead a show once again. If he can score some touchdowns, the game will easily be won by the Cowboys.

This week is the Cowboys game to lose. In a previous article, I talked about how consistency is the key to the 2013 season. Last week’s game exemplifies this. The Broncos are easily the best team in the NFL, and the Cowboys managed to play up to their level. The Cowboys ended up losing, but the fact that we kept up with the Broncos is encouraging. It shows our potential, and how the Cowboys can be one of the best teams in the NFL. If the Cowboys want to support this statement, they need to beat the Redskins.
