Going against the grain is not an unusual move by Skip Bayless, co-host of ESPN’s First Take. Especially when it comes to the team he covered as a reporter for many years, the Dallas Cowboys. And Bayless certainly is going against the experts as he thinks the Cowboys will defeat quarterback Peyton Manning and his high-octane Denver Broncos on Sunday.
“Feel free to call me crazy because I’m about to make, very possibly, the dumbest prediction in this history of this show, that I’ve been on. This might be the wrongest I’ve ever been on this show because…I am going Dallas over Denver! I am going Tony Romo over Peyton Manning Sunday at Jerry World! And I have no logic but illogic here, Stephen A. I don’t have any real reasons for this. I can’t really make the case except I just have a feeling. And I’ve had this feeling since before the year started. And I circled this game on the schedule. And it just hit me that, you know what, Dallas is capable of winning this game.”
Bayless went on to give a score prediction of 35-33, Dallas. He then began calling out several Dallas players who have been under-performing.
“DeMarcus Ware, I’m calling you out! Where are you? This is your turn! Your time! You gotta get after Peyton Manning the way you do, sometimes, in the biggest games…DeMarco Murray! Where are you, my man? This is your time to ball control Peyton Manning off the field. Need some long drives. I need time of possession to be 35 to 25, Dallas. I need DeMarco to run for 150. I need (Tony) Romo to just deadly accurate as he can be on third down. Hold onto the football. Keep Peyton from shredding a very shreddable Cowboy secondary. Maybe, I don’t know….maybe Mo Claiborne will actually intercept a pass inspired by all the negativity coming from his owner, and general manager and head coach…I’m doing it. I’m going for it. I’m putting myself on the end of this limb. 35-33, home team.”
In response, his co-host Stephen A. Smith called him crazy for his prediction. But Smith did offer the following caveat:
“I will say this. This is the kind of game that Dallas tends to make liars out of everybody. When everybody believes that they will fall, this is the kind of game Dallas can win. But I just refuse to believe Peyton Manning’s going to let that happen.”
