Of course if that were to happen their incredible advantage over all other teams is crippled. It would be foolish to think they couldn’t still be a very good football team. It’s no accident that Wes Welker and Demaryius Thomas are both in the top 10 in the NFL in receptions. Eric Decker is not that far behind them in 15th place. It’s no accident that the Broncos have 3 guys in the top 10 in TD Receptions.
On top of all this receiving and passing firepower the Broncos have the guy who right now is whom I consider the most dangerous return man in the NFL. His name is Trindon Holiday and he looks like anything but an NFL player. Holiday is a tiny 5’5″, 170 pound spark plug. Teams are kicking away form him on Kickoffs. For very good reason. He is averaging 46.3 yards per Kick Return. Add to this a 14.7 yard average in Punt Returns and you get an idea of how much of a weapon this kid is. He is the only player in the NFL right now to have a TD on a Kickoff Return and a Punt Return. Simply put, he can change a game. Kick away from him every time.
If the Broncos have a weakness as a team it may be their rushing attack. If you can call it that. The Broncos are 13th in the NFL in rushing yards and they average 4.0 yards per carry. What they do not have so far though is the Running Back who is a game changer. They hoped they’d have that in 2nd round Draft pick, Montee Ball out of Wisconsin. To this point though Ball is responsible for Denver only 2 turnovers on fumbles lost. He’s only averaging 3.2 yards per carry and Denver is relying instead on veteran Knowshon Moreno as they primary RB.
What this means is that Monte Kiffin, Rod Marinelli, and crew will do what every Defense this year is going to focus on, stopping the Broncos passing game. That means hit the QB. That means jam the WRs at the Line of Scrimmage, especially Welker. That task likely falls to Orlando Scandrick who in the past has had a good game against Welker. It also probably means that Dallas has to run the football and eat up the clock. Keep the Broncos off the field, and from getting into sync. The more plays you give the Broncos, the more they will put points on the board. Thus Jason Witten and DeMarco Murray are probably the two biggest Offensive keys to a Cowboys victory this week. They need to be the chains movers.
