I know for a fact that many fans still think of the blue jerseys as bad luck. You have to wonder if the Chargers are using this mind game tactic themselves.? In this case, no they aren’t. In week 1 when the Chargers hosted the Houston Texans, they wore white at home and the Texans wore their away blues. Is this a change in philosophy for the Chargers? It may be too early to tell on that question. It is early in the NFL season when some games are still very hot. Perhaps this is merely a case of the Chargers wanting their early opponents in the darker, and therefore hotter, jerseys.
Whatever the motivation for this rare occasion of getting to see the Cowboys in blue, I like it. It is just my opinion, but I think the Cowboys blue jerseys are far and away the best looking jersey in the entire NFL by a very wide margin. First of all their pants are a true silver instead of the green tinted home pants that so many of their fans dislike. But beyond the color of the pants it is the brilliance of the jersey itself that makes it such a visual treat. On the white jersey the blue numbers and letters are royal blue and do not match the navy blue of the star on the helmet. While it still looks good, it does distract a little bit at times as you wonder why the colors don’t match.
The blue jersey and the star match perfectly, and the silver pants more closely matches the metallic blue silver of the helmet and it is a superior look. The neckline of the two jerseys are also different slightly. The blue jersey has a silver stripe around the collar, while the white jersey is just plain white. On the white jersey the sleeves have 2 royal blue stripes with silver borders. On the blue jersey a silver stripe has white borders and then the star logo is added to the sleeve. I like this look. On top of this right below the point of the collar on the blue jersey you see the word Cowboys in small letters right above the numbers. It is absent on the white jersey.
These nuances are part of the compelling draw of the Dallas Cowboys. Honestly, stop and think about it for a minute. Can you name me another team in the NFL that has a cursed jersey? Fans are superstitious by nature. Some have to wear a particular clothing item each game. Some have to eat a particular meal. I share that superstition a little. When the Cowboys play the Redskins I want to eat chicken. However, that is not really a superstition. It’s more of a tribute to Clint Murchison Jr., and two stunts he pulled against the Redskins in the 1960’s.
