Cowboys, Chargers Injury Report: Miles Austin Ruled Out

The Dallas Cowboys will play the San Diego Chargers on Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium. But they will do so without wideout Miles Austin in the starting lineup. Austin injured his hamstring during last Sunday’s victory over the St. Louis Rams. Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said their are monitoring Austin’s situation and consider him day-to-day, but he was unable to practice at all this week.

Complicating matters is wideout Dwayne Harris also missed practice this week with a hip pointer. Harris was able to do some light jogging earlier in the week and although he is listed as questionable, has promised to play on Sunday. Regardless, the Cowboys are preparing rookie wideout Terrance Williams to make his first start in the NFL this Sunday. Williams was held without even a target in last weekend’s lopsided victory over the St. Louis Rams.

More bad news came earlier this week when All-Pro defensive end Anthony Spencer was placed on season-ending IR after he elected to have microfracture surgery on his left knee. Journeyman defensive end George Selvie will take his place on the defensive line for the rest of the season.

Defensive end DeMarcus Ware struggled with stingers all week in practice, but they don’t expect that to limit him in this weekends’ game.

And linebacker Ernie Sims should makes his return after being out for two games with a groin injury.

For the San Diego Chargers, they face the prospect of missing most of their starting offensive line in this game due to injury. Starting left tackle King Dunlap is questionable for this weekend’s game after sustaining a concussion last week against the Tennessee Titans. While starting left guard Chad Rinehart is doubtful with a toe injury. And starting right guard Jeromy Clary has a bruised clavicle. All three are not expected to play on Sunday.

The Cowboys enter then game ranked 15th in total offense and 13th in total defense. The Chargers defense is ranked 31st in the NFL. And their offense is ranked 11th.
