Want To Write About the Dallas Cowboys? Here's Your Chance!

The Landry Hat is looking to expand our writing staff in an effort to improve our coverage and bring you the best Dallas Cowboys news and opinion on the web.

Part of the mission of the FanSided Sports Network is to encourage our community of readers to share their opinions and thoughts on their favorite teams. Our writers don’t hold back and we don’t expect our readers to either. We want to give you the best coverage and opinions on your favorite team from the fan perspective that is so often missing from traditional sports media. We believe sports coverage doesn’t have to be dry, boring and without opinion.

As a result, we are expanding our staff here at The Landry Hat to give you more content and a broader perspective. We are currently accepting applications for open staff writer positions, a new desk position and an assistant editor position.

All these positions are strictly volunteer and are unpaid, although some of our former writers have moved into paid staff positions as vacancies and opportunities arose.

Staff writers are expected to submit at least one article per week. Being a writer for a FanSided blog also offers excellent exposure, opportunities to talk to and meet players/coaches, and a chance to sharpen not only your writing skills, but your view of your favorite team. There is tremendous opportunity for growth within FanSided to those who seek it. FanSided is currently partners with Sports illustrated, and your articles will be featured on their website as well.

New Desk writers are simply reporting on breaking news. You would write a small 200+ word article on any and all Dallas Cowboys breaking news you feel would be relevant to our readership. You would not be limited by a schedule and have the freedom to write when you feel it’s needed. These would be smaller articles, updating our readership on breaking Cowboys news as quickly as possible.

An Assistant Editor applicant must be willing to be a writer on our site for at least six months, in-order to understand our workflow. They will also have access to every article prior to publishing for review. Only minor grammar adjustments are required. Must have experience or better than average writing skills and must work well with others.

How To Apply: If you are interested in joining the writing staff, please submit a brief 300 – 400 word sample of your work (or a link to) relating to the Dallas Cowboys as well as a brief bio. You can email your writing sample and bio to me at [email protected] with the subject line The Landry Hat Application. As you can imagine, when a call for applications goes out, we receive many. You should expect a replay within two to three weeks, if not sooner.

Important: These positions require not only a talent for writing but also a certain level of computer savvy and constant internet access. Although potential candidates will receive training, they should already possess a basic level of computer knowledge. They should also have an e-mail address which they check on a daily basis.

I look forward to potentially adding new people to the staff and bringing our readers fresh, unique, and non-stop Cowboys coverage.
