Who Makes The Final Cut In Dallas? 53-Man Roster Prediction

The Dallas Cowboys, just like all NFL teams, must trim down their rosters to 53 players by this Saturday. The Cowboys roster currently stands at 75. That means, for the next two days, the fate of 22 players will be analyzed, argued over and ultimately determined in a conference room somewhere at Valley Ranch. And after a debacle of a game like the one the Cowboys just played against the Houston Texans on Thursday night, the cuts might just be a little easier to swallow.

The Texans ran over the Cowboys in the final preseason game last night, 24-6. It was a game with very few highlights on Dallas’ side of the ball. And for some players, it may just have been the final game of their NFL careers.

It is a difficult task to try and predict the Cowboys’ 53-man roster. There are just too many factors to consider for anyone outside of the system to accurately gauge such a thing. But based on my observations, the Cowboys current injury concerns and considering their lack of depth, i will try my best to create a final roster prediction for you.

Aug 29, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys quarterback Alex Tanney (7) throws a pass in the first quarter of the game against the Houston Texans at AT

Quarterbacks

In:

Tony Romo

Kyle Orton

Out:

Alex Tanney

Analysis: The Cowboys have too many injury concerns and lack of depth to justify keeping three quarterbacks on the team. Tanney now hits the waiver wire. If he isn’t claimed, he’s a definite candidate for the Cowboys practice squad. Tanney has proven in a short time with Dallas that he’s worth being groomed.

Even with Ratliff off the roster (on PUP), there are 54 players.

Scratch that, I’m an idiot. There are 53.

I agree Cohen is just a “placeholder” until final cuts are made, but disagree on Bell. Let him go and let Armstrong be a vital Special Teamer and receiving option.

Sterling Moore stays. He earned the 5th corner spot. I think that McCray is out n they only keep 4 safeties.

Root in’ for Pellerin. Not sure why though.

I think we all knew the majority of the players making the roster. So it’s not a difficult task overall. No way they keep 11 OL. Matt Johnson should be cut. There is no room on the roster or PS for someone that is never available to play. I disagree that they need him. How could a team need a player that can’t even practice? Moore makes this team.

How can they keep Danny McCray? The guy has been exposed as a serious liability in the secondary, and safety is too thin a spot on this roster to keep a guy who gets routinely burned in coverage…
How do you cut Danny McCray? He’s one of the best core special teams players in the league, and the ‘Boys need all the studs they can muster for their woeful kicking game…
Love to be a fly on the wall in these roster meetings to hear Kiffin and Bisaccia go at it.
