Dallas Cowboys Stock Report: Wide Receivers On The Bubble

The Dallas Cowboys wrapped up training camp this week. And one of the more intriguing battles has been at the wide receiver position. The Cowboys are only expected to keep six wideouts on their final roster this season, at most. And with a number of talented wideouts in camp, I don’t envy the coaches’ task of having to cut any of them. That’s why their play in these final preseason games is so critical for each and every one of them. Here’s my stock assessment for each of those wideouts whom I believe are currently on the bubble.

First, let’s start with the four wideouts that I believe have already their positions locked on the team. That would be Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, and Dwayne Harris. I am also placing rookie Terrance Williams on this list due to him being such a high draft pick. This leaves only two spots remaining on the depth chart. That is only if the Cowboys indeed choose to keep six wideouts this year. Dallas could also consider keeping some of these players on their practice squad. But for purposes of this article, I am only speculating about the team’s final 53 man roster.

Stock Rising: Cole Beasley

Preseason stats: 4 receptions, 54 yards, 1 TD, 6 targets

After failing to impress in the Hall of Fame game against the Miami Dolphins, Beasley returned with a vengeance in the following match-up against the Oakland Raiders. Connecting with back-up quarterback Kyle Orton for a 15-yard touchdown strike with less then a minute in the first half. Beasley could have done even more to help his stock, but a foot injury sidelined him in the second half. Many fans believed Cole was a “lock” to make the team after his solid performance last season. But it is not unheard-of for a player of his size (5’8) to have to prove himself over and over again. Despite that, Beasley has a better chance of making the final roster then any of the other players on this list so far.

Keep Jared Green. Just because I’d like to see his dad (a former deadskin) root for the Cowboys.
