It's All About the Defense at the Moment!

Friday Night brought Cowboys Nation the second pre-season game for the ‘Boys. All of our starters were on the field for this one. They kicked off in Oakland, Home of the Silver and Black. Though we fell short in beating the Raiders, our Defense was seriously making things happen (again) and I couldn’t have been happier… Well, unless of course Special Teams would have shown up and we would have won. (Obviously.) Moving along…

Sean Lee and J.J. Wilcox had a hand in (i.e. caused) two of our biggest defensive plays of the game. On the opening drive, Sean Lee sacked Oakland’s QB Matt Flynn and forced a fumble, it was recovered by Jason Hatcher. With about 6-minutes left in the second quarter, our rookie safety J.J. Wilcox intercepted Terrelle Pryor’s pass in the end zone.

Two games into the pre-season and our Defense has shown up impressively. Let me hush the haters by saying, I do realize that I just said two games into the pre-season, but here’s the thing… The ‘Boys are gaining footing and momentum. They are giving themselves things to build on. Between the excellence of our defensive line coach, Rod Marinelli and our defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, there is not a doubt in my mind that as long as we stay healthy and focused we can establish a defense that other teams fear. The coaching is there, the talent is there, the drive to be the best is there. I’m pretty sure it’s our time, but only time will tell.

Cheers, Dez
