Cowboys Training Camp Spotlight: Travis Frederick

I never thought it would arrive… Cowboys Training Camp in Oxnard is here! Three days into camp and already the madness that makes football the best sport on the planet has begun!

Today, we’re highlighting the man who (is for now) behind The Man… Err… Rather the man in front of The Man. I am talking about none other than Travis Frederick. I can’t tell a lie, I am a little biased in giving my first highlight article of the 2013 season to the 31st draft pick. “The Beard” hails from Wisconsin and for those of you who don’t live and breath college football, Wisco is in the B1G Ten… And I am a B1G Ten Chick. (I do realize most of our readership is Big 12, some SEC and a couple of the others sprinkled in, but since we’re all Cowboys, let’s just come together in the name of the ‘Boys on this one.)

When our Cowboys took the field this past Sunday it was the first official time that Romo and Frederick rocked some snaps. In the offseason Frederick worked with Cowboys QB backups Orton and Stephens, so there will be a little tweaking to be made between The Beard and our QB1. I think we can all agree that is to be expected. Frederick will also be getting reps in at the guard position. His versatility couldn’t have come at a better time, especially since our top three guards are sitting out with injuries at the moment. ESPNDallas.com’s Tim MacMahon quoted Frederick as saying:

It’s a challenge because you’re switching spots and you have different responsibilities, but it’s also kind of a blessing in the fact that you get a chance to play both positions. At center, you kind of have to know what’s going on. You have to know what the guards are doing and what the tackles are doing. So by playing guard, you can get a real physical feel of what the guards need.”

There is plenty more camp to go to see how things shape up. 48 Days until Kickoff in Dallas!

Cheers, Dez
