I don’t think anybody could be as excited for the start of a football season as I am right now. The news is still slow but that hasn’t stopped any of us from trying to get our weekly fill on Cowboys news.
Not much has changed as far as news regarding the Dallas Cowboys, and as I stated several times in previous articles, that might be the best news we have heard in a long time. For once the team looks like they are trying to avoid the spotlight and focus on football.
News broke recently of Bill Parcells and his statement claiming that there are a lot of misconceptions regarding Jerry Jones. Could this be true? Is it possible that everything we have thought about Jerry Jones for so long is entirely incorrect?
Let it be known now that I am nowhere near the critic of Jerry Jones that most of you are, so I can definitely see where Parcells is coming from.
When things don’t go as planned the natural thing to do is search for a scapegoat. For most teams it might be the head coach, the quarterback, perhaps even the outspoken prima donna that talks more than he plays, and while both Jason Garrett and Tony Romo have received their fair share of criticism over the past few years, no name is more connotative to failure than that of Jerry Jones.
Is it fair? When he bought the team they looked unstoppable winning Championships three out of four years becoming the NFL’s first official dynasty, but Jones without a doubt has failed to lead the team to that kind of prominence since.
With an owner as involved and outspoken as Jerry Jones it only seems fair that he receive most of the blame for the franchises lack of success over the past two decades right?
I don’t think there is any doubt that Jones is a huge Cowboy fan, and as owner of the team I can’t imagine any of us wouldn’t want to be just as involved in something we rightfully owned no matter how much it annoyed the masses.
I think we can all agree that Jones has definitely made some bad business decisions in his time at the helm, but make no mistake, the brand of the Dallas Cowboys is as strong as ever as Forbes recently ranked the Cowboys as one of the most valuable sports franchises in the world. Despite many years of underachieving, Jones has built an empire allowing it to maintain the moniker of America’s Team despite many naysayers trying to prove otherwise.
The Dallas Cowboys are what they are due to the work of Jerry Jones. All the bad can be attributed to him as well, but Jones is a big reason as to why the Boys are still relevant and thriving.
I wouldn’t go to sleep on this squad either, it’s been said before but this team truly seems more focused than ever.
Maybe finally this is the year that Jerry Jones gets to tell all of us I told you so.
