In the current NFL it’s hard to keep talented players, especially at the same skill position. That’s why good cornerback combos are few and far between. We’ve all heard about “Revis Island” and about the much over-hyped Nnamdi Asomugha. Great corners are stars in this league. And they are often on the move in free agency, like both of the aforementioned players. Or they’re so expensive it’s hard to find talent to place opposite field of them. But in Dallas, the Cowboys have a tandem that might just be the best in the league.
After signing a lucrative five year, 50.1 million free agent contract last year, corner Brandon Carr made the move to Dallas from the Kansas City Chiefs to become the Cowboys premier defensive back. In addition to Carr, Dallas drafted LSU Star corner Morris Claiborne in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. After a year learning the scheme and learning to play together, both players are poised for breakout seasons under new defensive coordinator and coaching legend Monte Kiffin. His “turn-over” centric scheme should take advantage of both player’s coverage and ball-hawking abilities.
As we look around the league, comparable corner combos include: The Chicago Bear’s Charles Tillman and Tim Jennings, the Seattle Seahawks‘ Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman, and the St. Louis Rams‘ Cortland Finnegan and Janoris Jenkins. And how about the newest combos of Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ Darrelle Revis and Eric Wright; and San Francisco 49ers‘ Asomugha and Carlos Rogers.
But does Dallas have a better corner combo then all those teams? You tell us.
