Top 3 Defensive Reasons the Dallas Cowboys will Rock the Playoffs

I’m just going to go ahead and say it (again)… I think the Cowboys have a fine chance to rock the playoffs this year. Judging by the feedback I received from last week’s article… Y’all do not agree, not one bit. You can check out my “Top 3 Offensive Reasons” Here. Enjoy, and if you disagree, let’s at least play nice. This week I give you my top 3 defensive reasons why I think we can do well this year…

1) One Name, Monte Kiffin. Our defensive coordinator is a mastermind and I would even go so far as to say Monte is the best there is. Monte Kiffin was brought on board in January of this year to replace Rob Ryan. Kiffin runs a 4-3 defense, which if you remember, Landry himself invented… If this isn’t a sign of good karma well, I don’t know what is. Now don’t get me wrong, I am well aware that we aren’t going to win football games based on good karma. I think the 4-3 is good for us. It will create pressure on a more consistent basis and in a perfect world cause more turnovers.

2) The Three. As long as Bruce Carter and Sean Lee stay healthy we have a solid foundation of linebackers to work with. A welcome addition that has emerged is Justin Durant. He signed with the Cowboys in March and has since shown up in a big way. Time will tell, but this looks promising!

3) Cornerback. It goes without saying Morris Claiborne needs to step it up this season. After last season it was reported that he gave himself a C- as a grade. That being said, he stepped it up in the offseason, gained more strength and is anticipating big things from himself this season. Since I believe off-field actions determine on-field success I can say with confidence he is headed in the right direction. An amped-up Claiborne coupled with veteran Brandon Carr leads me to believe that we are going to have a strong set of CB’s that round out the secondary nicely.

I think our defense is stacked to do well. With the leadership from Kiffin and the speed and strength of our ‘Boys, it’s just what we need to dominate this season and of course rock the playoffs. As always, tweet me a Holla! Share your thoughts, I love hearing from you.

Cheers, Dez

I love the idea of the Boys getting back to their roots. Our “D” was a lot better when we running the 4-3 back in the 90′s. I am excited to see how our D-line plays in their new role. How do you feel about our safety position, im hearing a lot of really good things about Church and Johnson. Will they be the starters or does Wilcox and/or Allen have anything to say about that?

AGREED! I can’t wait to see the D this season… I can’t lie, I’m pretty hyped about it!
It’s so funny to hear people talk about this since safety’s usually aren’t the topic of convo! I think Church will for sure… That’s an easy pick. Out of the other three, I don’t know. Allen has played Tampa 2 and he and Johnson had a lot of reps at OTA’s. I think Wilcox would be a long shot but then again people are saying don’t count him out. It will be interesting that is for sure!

safeties will look good ,AS LONG AS FRONT 4 CREATE PRESSURE. (ie – aka Pitt, Baltimore, SF, Seattle); I hope Kiffin can D the read option & get our DE’s to contain (they didnt do that against deadskins in Week 17 last year) – yes Im referring to Ware & Spencer (Pro Bowl selections tr not ….)
