Here’s the list of players available at the time of Dallas’ second round pick (47th overall):

Ryan Nassib, QB
Matt Barkley, QB
Eddie Lacy, RB
Terrance Williams, WR
Gavin Escobar, TE
Margus Hunt, DE
Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB

Second Round Summary: Quarterbacks were not a priority at all in this draft for the Cowboys. They had two, Nassib and Barkley, with second round grades that lasted until the fourth round, but opted not to pull the trigger on either. Instead, both of them landed with NFC East foes.

Alabama running back Eddie Lacy should have been a no-brainer here. With DeMarco Murray struggling to stay on the field, Lacy would have made more sense than Escobar. (Especially when you consider they had three tight ends with third round grades later on) Also, tight end James Hanna was drafted last year and has shown a lot of potential. By drafting another tight end in the second round, you are basically stunting Hanna’s growth.

But the reason the Cowboys went with Escobar is they had him higher ranked than Lacy. On their big board, Escobar was ranked #25, while Lacy was down at #38.

Margus Hunt would have been an asset to the Cowboys defensive line as well. With him, DeMarcus Ware could have stayed at outside linebacker, the position he has held, with great success I might add, with the Cowboys his entire career.

Will someone tell me why Jerry Jones is so enamored with creating two and three tight end offensive sets? Shouldn’t he be trying to fix the Cowboys current problems before trying to give Tony Romo yet another receiving option?

The next page has the third round grades…
