11. San Diego Chargers  – Cordarrelle Patterson – WR – Tennessee (Previous Pick: Keenan Allen – WR – California)
As the explosive players have left San Diego, the play of Phillip Rivers has gotten worse and forced to take more chances. The Chargers need a go-to receiver and even with only one full season of D-1 college football under his belt, Patterson is a beast physically with the size and speed to help Rivers get back on track.

Other Possibilities: Johnathan Cooper – G – North Carolina, Sharrif Floyd – DT – Florida, Kenny Vaccaro – S – Texas

12. Miami Dolphins – Kenny Vaccaro – S - Texas
Miami was arguably the biggest player in free agency this offseason. Their defensive backs need help and either cornerback or safety will do. Vaccaro is the best on the board of both positions. He has the size to be a force in the run game and speed to cover receivers down the field.

Other Possibilities: Eric reid – S – LSU, Desmond Trufant – CB – Washington, Alec Ogletree – ILB – Georgia

13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Desmond Trufant – CB – Washington (Previous Pick: Sheldon Richardson – DT – Missouri)
Tampa Bay seems to be the only players in the Darrelle Revis sweepstakes. If they cannot get him, they may look to the Draft to find a corner. Trufant is a 3 year starter with experience and talent to dominate right away.

Other Possibilities: Star Lotulelei – DT – Utah, Sharrif Floyd – DT – Florida, Alec Ogletree – ILB – Georgia

14.  Carolina Panthers – Sharrif Floyd – DT – Florida
Carolina has neglected their interior defense for years. Now with a space eater like Floyd in the middle and Defensive Rookie of the Year Luke Kuechley, they will have a formidable tandem to build around.

Other Possibilities: Star Lotulelei – DT – Utah, Sylvester Williams – DT – North Carolina, Eric Reid – S – LSU

15.  New Orleans Saints – Ezekial Ansah – DE/OLB – BYU (Barkevious Mingo – DE/OLB – LSU)
The Saints have their eye on Ansah as a “DeMarcus Ware type” player in Rob Ryan’s 3 -4 defense. if they feel the jets may take him, they could be a team that makes a move up ahead of them to insure they get their man.

Other Possibilities: Dion Jordan – DE/OLB – Oregon, Jarvis Jones – OLB – Alabama, Xavier Rhodes – CB – Florida State

16.  St. Louis Rams – Johnathan Cooper – G – North Carolina (Previous Pick: Lane Johnson – OT - Oklahoma)
The Rams started the process of overhauling their failure of an offensive line with the free agent acquisition of tackle Jake Long. Now they continue the process with some interior help.

Other Possibilities: Eric Reid – S – LSU, Jarvis Jones – OLB – Alabama, Dion Jordan – DE/OLB – Oregon

17.  Pittsburgh Steelers – Johnathan Hankins – DT – Ohio State
Pittsburgh had many cap casualties and none was bigger than Casey hampton, both literally and figuratively. Hankins may not be the best overall defenive tackle on the board, but he has versatility to play 3 – 4 DE and NT, which the Steelers and Hall of Fame defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau can find a way to utilize him in the Pittsburgh defense.

Other Possibilities: Sylvester Williams – DT – North Carolina, Star Lotulelei – DT – Utah, Jarvis Jones – OLB – Alabama

If star is there take him no question

    • Dietz

without the heart condition I would totally agree with you, but as I said in the piece I am not a doctor, and if doctors say the condition is not an issue, he will likely go in the top 10…

      • dee

I saw somewhere he was cleared to practice

        • Dietz

Cleared to practice, is a different story then finding out whether or not his condition is just a one time thing, or if it could plague him during his career… If all is clear, then Star is the best DT in the Draft class and we would be lucky to get him at 18…

Second round i would take tank carradine, margus hunt, larry warford, cyrien, menlik watson before dallas thomas

    • Dietz

I thin offensive line has to be the pick in round 2, so Watson, and Warford would be better fits than the defensive ends… Thomas is a wild card, and potential could be better than Watson, but in my opinion you cannot go wrong with either guy in round 2

  • I agree

Star with a Star on his helmet but I like Short also!

    • Dietz

I would love Star on the team, provided he is healthy and cleared by all medical professionals… Since I am not one of those professionals, I would like to play it safe and go with a guy like Short… Also if Star is healthy he will be a top 10 pick, so we may not be that lucky, but we can keep our fingers crossed he makes his way there

I do not agree with any of the picks proposed nor the complicated trade proposal. What were you thinking?

    • Dietz

OK, so if you do not agree, then grow a pair of balls and make your suggestions for picks…

The thoughts on the trade out of the 18th pick is to get an extra first round pick in 2014, when the Draft class is vastly superior to the 2013 class… so getting two players in 2014 that will be studs rather than one marginal player…

As far as draft strategy in 2013 is concerned, the best players available are on the offensive and defensive line, so decisions have to be made about which player to take at which position and what time is appropriate to take them.

But since you don’t agree, or have the balls to put your theories out there I’m just guessing you don’t have any… Man up and bring your theories, then we can debate which way to go.

I have placed my picks numerous times on this site. You were not reading. Where are your picks?

        • Dietz

My Picks are made throughout this entire mock draft

  • Charlie Christopher

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Don’t trade the first pick if you’re Dallas
