Extremely versatile offensive lineman:

- 26 starts at right guard as RS Freshman and Sophomore.  3rd team All-American as Soph.

- 10 starts at left tackle as Junior winning Outland Trophy as nation’s top lineman, consensus All-American

- 14 starts at center as Senior, consensus All-American

Very smart, intense, and confident player. Could easily start at either center or guard during rookie season.  Selecting Jones as starting CENTER to finally bring stability and solid production to the position.

Only concern is Jones had surgery in mid-January to repair torn ligaments in his foot. The rehab for this surgery (4-5 months) will not keep Jones out of training camp.

- Another option would be to stay at Pick 18 and select OG Jonathon Cooper.  Solid player yet Jones fits my o-line strategy best

- If Kenny Vaccaro is available at 18 it would change my entire draft outlook, should be gone to MIA or NO by then

I like where you are going with this, but I might’ve picked a few different players. But I like what your draft is geared towards. I also don’t like not having a third round pick, there are two guys I think we could get that would be a huge impact in the 3rd:

    1) Alvin Bailey OG Arkansas
    2) Jelani Jenkins OLB Flordia

I’m also no longer a fan of Barrett Jones, I think he’s a little soft and benefited from playing with such a good line. at 1.31 in no particular order I’d rather take

    1) Kawaan Short DT Purdue
    2) DJ Fluker OT Bama
    3) Dallas Thomas OG/OT Tennesse

I am not a fan of trading back. We have plenty of ok players. We need more dominant players. We must get top flight players that can start or contribute right now.
Your approach is seeking quantity. I would rather have quality. Remember the 2009 draft? 12 picks and not a single starter… ever. This is still screwing us to this day. Boys aren’t good at drafting. We need sure things. Don’t try to out wit the league with small school players. JJ tries this way to much. And loses most of the time.
    1. Take Sheldon Richardson at 18. No to Vaccaro. No safety in the 1st rd. DL or OL.
    2. Warford – YES!
    3. Carradine – no more red shirt years. We need help now. This really depends on what happens with Spencer. And this kid is to small.
    4. Bell sounds great. But I think we should be going after Chris Ivory of the Saints. Then use this spot for OL or DL.
    5. Safety spot – Have we given up on Church and Johnson already?
    6. Kaufman – NO more small school players. The one position that we don’t need to draft for is WR. Possession WR? That’s Miles and Beasley’s job. And we haven’t even seen Coale yet.

The Draft is simple. If there are 6 Picks then Dallas takes 4 Linemen in Total – OT, Guard/Centre, DE, DT. Then add a Safety and a Running back to replace Jones. In order I would put this froward: Rd 1 OT/Guard Rd 2 DE Rd 3 OT/Guard or Centre Rd 4 DT Rd 5 Safety Rd 6 RB. Just select the best available at time of the Draft process in these positions. Its a NO BRAINER!!!

First of all Brad great article It look like you put some though into this one. I have always been a fan of the trade down I too dont buy the first rd hype. I like a lot of your players here. I too have notice your WR from E Washinton, but I was hoping to get him as unfa. I like your RB also but I had my eye on unfa DJ Spencer from Boise and Stephon Jefferson from Reno Nevada.. I like your DE in the sec also but I think it to high to get him at this spot. The ACL injury most likely will red shirt him this year. I had my eye on another Safety in the third rd, The Safety from Fresno State, but at least you know the safeties are an issue here in Dallas. Rather than take the TE late I believe we can get one of the top Center left in this draft or even a OG like Travis Bond here. I was hoping to pick up a 7th rd Pick and address the QB position with Collin Klein 6-5 QB with 39 td to 15 interception in the last two years of college along with his 2000 yards rushing and 50 TD. He a project at best but I think with the right coach can become something special

There an possible UNFA CB Gregg Reid who may or may not be in this draft, he from Florida state, he is part of the nation best trio ast CB in college ball. Reid had numerous off the field incident, the program released him at the end of the year. I was looking at picking him up as UNFA but I would also take him in the 7th should we get for Picks by trading down. We just dont have enough picks and too many need. He a good special team player also, can help us in that department. Dustin Harris Texas A & M is another CB I was looking to get as UNFA
