With the Super Bowl and the 2012 NFL season now in the books, fans turn their attention to the upcoming free agency and draft possibilities. As always, FanSided is on top of all things Mock Draft. They have released their first post-Super Bowl Mock Draft today. Let’s take a look at who they have chosen for the Dallas Cowboys’ first round pick.
With the 18th pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select…
Sheldon Richardson, DT/Missouri
Here’s FanSided explanation for the pick:
When it comes to Richardson, scouts are absolutely high on him and he’s got a lot of evidence to back up all the hype. He’s got a lighting fast first step and can penetrate backfields like some of the top defensive tackles in the NFL. He’s fluctuating in value right now, but all signs are pointing to Richardson seeing his value take a jump as we get closer to the draft. The Cowboys need to beef up their front line and Richardson will be something running backs don’t want to deal with on Sunday’s.
It’s the biggest question in the NFL draft for the Cowboys: Should they select offensive lineman or defensive lineman. The switch to the 4-3 defense and the talent level of defensive line players available seems to lean towards the Cowboys’ front office selecting defensively. Yet, when you look at the dominating offensive lines participating in this year’s Super Bowl, it makes getting quality offensive lineman a must.
Obviously, what Dallas decides to do (or what not to do) in free agency and the results of the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine will help us focus in on what the Cowboys might do here. And let’s not rule out owner and general manager Jerry Jones moving up or down within the first round, which he’s done twice in the past three drafts.
No matter what happens in the first round for the Cowboys, I think we can all agree it will not be a “sexy” pick…then again, we are talking about Jerry Jones here.
