Jason Garrett has been in Mobile, but much of his time has been spent holed up in a Hotel room conducting interviews for the coaching vacancies on the Cowboys. The Senior Bowl may be the best audition place for potential assistant coaches anywhere. One named linked to the Cowboys is a man they can’t interview. That would be current Cincinnati Bengals Assistant and former Oakland Raiders Head Coach, Hue Jackson. Jackson’s one year contract with the Bengals has not expired yet, so if the Cowboys want to interview him they need the Bengals permission. To my knowledge that has not been granted yet, but Jackson did make it known that he would love to work for the Cowboys. Dez Bryant, he could be your new mentor in place of allegedly retiring Jimmy Robinson.
The Senior Bowl is not just the greatest coach audition opportunity, it is also a chance for teams to see most of the top college talent going against each other and to set up their first interviews with that talent. Thus making the Senior Bowl perhaps even bigger than the Scouting Combines as far as a time to evaluate what a team is going to do.
What are the Dallas Cowboys going to do? That is the question of the day for Cowboys fans all over the world as once again we got oh so close, and came up short. The easy answer is they have to address the Offensive and Defensive Lines in this Draft. You couldn’t get me to disagree with that if I had a gun to my head. But let’s not kid ourselves, there are more needs than just the Lines. Many believe we have to get a Safety in this Draft. I don’t disagree with that. I also think we need a backup Running Back capable of being a starter if Murray goes down. I like Felix Jones, but he never was a premier back and we need to move on.
