The off season has arrived for the Dallas Cowboys and twenty nine other NFL teams. All thirty two teams have scouts in Mobile, Alabama this week to look at the talent in The Senior Bowl. All but the two Super Bowl teams in the All Harbaugh Bowl have scouts and coaches there. By the way, I’m rooting for John over Jim. I can’t stomach the San Francisco 49ers adding their sixth Lombardi Trophy before we do, but if I were a betting man, that is how I would bet. I am going to pull for the Baltimore Ravens, Ed Reed, and Ray Lewis to have one more miracle in them.
As things stand right now the Dallas Cowboys draft pick slots are number 18 of the first round, the 47th overall pick in the second round, the 80th pick in the third round, the 111th pick in the 4th round, the 144th pick in the 5th round, and the 175th pick of the 6th round. The 4th through 6th round number will change when the NFL adds thirty two Compensatory Draft Picks sometime leading up to the Draft.
Dallas does not have a 7th round pick this year. They traded that pick to the Miami Dolphins for the man who started at Center for us in the revolving door position. Dallas had four Centers and almost five for the 2012 season. Three different Centers started. That would be the acquired Ryan Cook, incumbent starter turned Injured Reserve designee Phil Costa, and starting Right Guard Mackenzy Bernadeau. The Cowboys also kept Kevin Kowalski and David Arkin primed to come in if Cook failed to stay healthy enough to complete the season.
Now you will hopefully understand why Center Barrett Jones of the Alabama Crimson Tide is probably my number one draft hope of 2013. If his linemate Chance Warmack fell to us though I’d do cartwheels down the street to add him. Barrett Jones is injured and not participating at the Senior Bowl and neither is Warmack, but they top my 2013 Christmas in April wish list.
