Cowboys Final Injury Report: Ratliff Out, Witten Doubtful

The Dallas Cowboys released their final injury report today for Wednesday night’s NFL season opening game against the New York Giants. Four time Pro Bowler defensive tackle Jay Ratliff has been officially ruled out due to a high ankle sprain he suffered in last week’s preseason game against the St. Louis Rams. This will give back-ups Sean Lissemore and Josh Brent both a chance to shine on a national stage.

Tight end Jason Witten’s status is still unclear for tomorrow night’s game, but the injury report lists him as doubtful. This means the seven-time Pro Bowler has a 25% chance of playing in the game. But Witten has vowed to “suit up” if the doctors clear him to do so. Quarterback Tony Romo’s favorite target lacerated his spleen in the Cowboys’ first preseason game against the Oakland Raiders and he has been sidelined ever since.

If Witten can not play, it  leaves the Cowboys with just two tight ends: John Phillips and rookie James Hanna. The Cowboys acquired second year tight end Colin Cochart off waivers on Saturday after he was released by the Cincinnati Bengals. But Cochart has already been ruled out of tomorrow’s game by the Cowboys.

Cornerback Mike Jenkins status is also unclear for tomorrow night. Still recovering from off season shoulder surgery, Jenkins has been a limited participant in practice all week. This is the first time he has been able to practice with the team all off season. Jenkins is listed as questionable on the Cowboys’ Injury Report.

On the other side of the ball, Giants’ wideout Hakeem Nicks has vowed to play Wednesday night despite being listed as questionable on the Giants’ injury report. Nicks only played a couple series in the team’s final preseason game after starting training camp on the physically unable to perform list with a foot injury.  The Giants’ main receiver broke a bone in his foot back in May. Nicks has been held out of practice all this week due to soreness.

Here’s is the complete rundown of both the Cowboys and Giants Injury Reports:
