Dallas Cowboys - San Diego Chargers Game Preview

In week 2 of the preseason, the Dallas Cowboys will go into Qualcomm Stadium to play against the San Diego Chargers on Saturday night. The Cowboys played an offensively sloppy game against the Oakland Raiders in their first preseason game. But the Cowboys’ defense did hold the Raiders scoreless on Monday night. Some notable players that will not be playing tonight include Miles Austin(hamstring), Jason Witten(spleen), and DeMarcus Ware(hamstring). Here are some key performances to look for in the game:

Morris Claiborne. He is expected to play in his first preseason game. The #6 player drafted overall this year has recovered from wrist surgery and a sprained MCL. He started practice this week, so the Cowboys fans should see him in action at cornerback.

Offensive line. This interior line is a major concern for the Cowboys. This week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones even made a comment that the struggles of the offensive line are his fault. They don’t have a true healthy center, and the starting O-line played terribly against Oakland. Running backs DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones had no room to run. Quarterback Tony Romo had pressure coming up the middle in the short amount of time he played. As expected starters Phil Costa, Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings continue to get healthy, you may see a more conservative game plan for the first team offense to try and keep Tony Romo protected.

Dan Connor vs Bruce Carter. These two players are competing  for the starting inside linebacker position next to linebacker Sean Lee. Coach Jason Garrett, defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, and Jerry Jones have been praising Carter and the improvement he is making every day. Currently, Connor and Carter have both been sharing first team reps on defense in practice.

Andre Holmes. Homes led the team with 3 catches and 40 yards in the game with the Raiders. The battle for the 3rd WR position is still very much in the air. If Holmes can lead the team again in production against the Chargers, he may have an early lead in the competition.

With the injuries mounting on the Cowboys team, many depth players will see plenty of reps in tonight’s game.

Attended tonites preseason game. Romo, Orton & 1st team defense look good. 2nd half got away Dallas but did like QB Carpenter’s 2-minute drill to score the final points in the 20-28 loss.

I only saw part of this game, I missed most of the first quarter so it hard to get a feel of what happen during the game. I guess my perspective on the Cowboys is one of lower expectations. I am not as dissapointed in the game like most Cowboys fans seem to be. I saw some nice stuff in the game. i saw the coming together of a good CB in Carr, he really doeshave a nose for the ball. Cole Beasley my WR finally had a good game as WR and KR .
