Don't Rule Out A Suspension For Dez Bryant

On a week where the focus should be on the upcoming Dallas Cowboy’s training camp, the Boys find themselves in a bit of legal misfortune regarding their upcoming star receiver Dez Bryant. Last Monday, Bryant was arrested on charges of assault against his own mother! His irresponsibility may ultimately lead to a suspension by the NFL. Although, his mother has allegedly dropped the charges, these off the field issues aren’t new for Bryant.

At the moment, what’s on everyone’s mind is will this situation lead to a possible suspension for Bryant? Despite Dez’s off the field issues, I don’t anticipate this incident will lead to one. But you can not totally rule it out, especially with NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell bringing the hammer down on players and coaches recently. Furthermore, if Dez continues to have off the field issues, than it is likely that Goodell will suspend Bryant and undoubtedly fine him as well.

On the upside, Bryant has the potential to have a breakout season. In fact, it is more probable he will have a breakout season than any other player on the Cowboys roster. I don’t contemplate Dallas will do anything drastic and cut their losses by releasing Bryant. Nevertheless, they should definitely sit him down and mentor him, because at this point in his career he has been nothing but a troubled player with great potential.

The Cowboys should consider bringing in a veteran from the free agency market if Goodell does decide to issue a suspension to Bryant. After Laurent Robinson’s breakout season last year with the Cowboys, it’s not a bad idea. Lets just hope Dez isn’t punished and this offseason proceeds without any more issues, because at the moment the Cowboys lack depth at the receiver position and they need all the help they can get.
