As bad as the Dallas Cowboys need an outstanding shutdown defensive back, let’s ask, “as fans do we really want Dez Bryant and Dre Kirkpatrick or Janoris Jenkins kicking it in the offseason together?”
Everyone makes mistakes and there is a chance that both Jenkins and Kirkpatrick have learned and grown from their previous mistakes. But can the Cowboys franchise take that chance?
Also in-case fans missed it, owner Jerry Jones recently commented on dreams of having a linebacking corps as good as San Francisco’s.
LSU’s Morris Claiborne will likely be gone by the time Dallas draft’s at the number fourteenth slot of this year’s draft and the next in line are Kirkpatrick and Jenkins. Nebraska’s Alfonzo Dennard is top round talent although a bit undersized in some opinions. Dennard was largely unimpressive when matched up against Justin Blackmon of Oklahoma State over the past few years during Big XII match-ups. But could there be another position that the Cowboys could address in the first round other than defensive back or on the offensive line?
There is the possibility that Dallas could use another premium pick on a linebacker and decide to give third year pro Victor Butler a chance at outside linebacker in place of a possibly departed Anthony Spencer.
By passing on questionable character players such as Janoris Jenkins and Dre Kirkpatrick while preparing for the future with Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw, who is regarded by many as a top five talent, the decision would serve the Dallas Cowboys two-fold in the years to come. Your thoughts?
