Wow, how bout that DeMarco Murray? I said in my prediction this week that he would show everyone why they drafted a RB despite having Felix, Tashard, and Barber. He did a lot more than that. He beat Emmitt’s record for the most yards ever by a Cowboy in a single game. He had a 91 yard TD run that is second in Cowboys’ history to only Dorsett’s 99 yarder. His 253 yards were the most ever in a game by a rookie, and the 9th most ever in a game in NFL history. Think about that for a minute. Think of all the great rushers that have graced the NFL: Eric Dickerson, Walter Payton, Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Barry Sanders, Franco Harris, Bo Jackson, etc. Only 9 of those players have ever rushed for more yards in a single game.

I am already a bit tired with the way everyone is dismissing DeMarco’s performace on the basis that it was “just the Rams”.  I accept that fact that he wasn’t running against the Ravens or Steelers, but surely there are worse run defenses than the Ram’s unit every year.  Surely there has been scores of horrendous defenses since the league began.  How many of those horrible defenses have ever given up more than 250 yards in a single contest?  Only 9.  I am not suggesting that Murray commission a sculpture of his bust for Canton just yet, but his accomplishment deserves more respect than being dismissed because it was “just the Rams”.

On a side note, I was quite pleased when I heard that both Emmitt and Tony Dorsett tweeted a congratulatory tweet to DeMarco. I guess Emmitt has enough records that he doesn’t have to be too worried about losing one.
