The new injury report for the Dallas Cowboys now includes kicker David Buehler. Mainly used for his kick-off proficiency, last year’s starting kicker has an apparent right groin injury that limited him in practice on Friday. Rookie Dan Bailey would handle the kick offs if Buehler is unable to go Monday night against the Washington Redskins.
As expected, Quarterback Tony Romo did not participate in Friday’s practice. Still recovering from a fractured rib and punctured lung he received in last week’s overtime victory against the San Francisco 49ers, Romo has only done some very light throwing so far this week. When asked about his chances of playing on Monday night, Romo responded:
“I’m still taking that approach. We’re going to take it day by day. The doctors have done a great job. All last week, during the game, afterwords, giving me all of the information. They’ve been great about the whole process. We’ll talk as we move forward, but if it’s just about the pain side of it, I think we’ll be good to go. But we’ll have to determine that as it gets closer.”
Dez Bryant was dressed for practice, but remained on the sidelines today. Bryant suffered a thigh injury in Week One’s game against the New York Jets and has missed the last four practice sessions. When asked about Bryant’s chances of playing against the Redskins, Head Coach Jason Garrett responded:
“I think he’s progressing on a daily basis. I think he’s done more today than he has the last couple days, so we’re certainly optimistic about him.”
Just like Romo and Bryant, WR Miles Austin (hamstring), OG Derrick Dockery (knee) and CB Orlando Scandrick (ankle) were all sidelined as well. They are not expected to play this Monday.
But it’s not all bad news for the Boys. Cornerback Terence Newman has been a full participant in practice for the last two days. Newman has been out the entire pre-season and regular season with a groin injury. Also fully participating in practices the past two days were CB Mike Jenkins (shoulder), OG Bill Nagy (neck), and LB Anthony Spencer (shoulder).
Another good sign is that starting running back Felix Jones (shoulder) participated in limited practice today after sitting the sidelines on Thursday.
